A Packed Summer of Sports at Fed Square

Get off the couch and into Fed Square this summer to catch great sporting matches and moments on Melbourne’s biggest outdoor screen!

From January to March, Fed Square is screening some of the biggest and best sporting events from Australia and across the globe.

Sports lovers are being encouraged to make their way to Fed Square to catch summer tennis, cricket, AFLW, soccer, basketball, and even the Superbowl on the state of the art five-storey Digital Façade, and big screens in the Upper Square and Atrium.

Fed Square CEO Jonathan Tribe said Fed Square is a sports lover haven this summer.

“Fed Square really shines in summer!  Since its reveal in August, the Digital Facade has quickly become a Melbourne icon and has attracted thousands of people to Fed Square.  We are thrilled to be able to show these fantastic sporting events on the Digital Facade,” said Tribe.

As part of the Summer of Sports, golf-enthusiasts can head to River Terrace until 4 February and take part in Disney’s Pixar Putt, an 18-hole mini golf course inspired by the beloved stories, characters and icons from some of Disney-Pixar’s most iconic films!  Guests can wander through Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Inside Out and Coco to try and score a hole in one!

Tennis fanatics can see their favorite stars as they’ve never seen them before on the five-storey Digital Facade at the KIA Tennis Live Site from 14 – 27 January.

The main square will be fitted out with sun lounges and deck chairs for sports fans to take in the views, and a delightful PIMMS Pop-Up Bar will be on site to serve refreshing drinks (for those over 18 years of age).

The 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Fixture takes to the main screen in February, with games kicking off just before 5pm and on 15 February, get ready for the game of the decade with the NRL Indigenous All-Stars v New Zealand Maori match.

For those wanting to start 2019 the right way, there’s also free early morning boot-camp classes three times a week as part of Fed Square: FIT!  This new program is run by professional Personal Trainers from Get Going PT.  Classes include Boxing, Guided Stretching and Circuit Training.

The Sounds of the World take to Fed Square for New Year’s Eve

Welcome in 2019 at Fed Square with a free, family friendly concert in the lead up to the dazzling midnight fireworks!

The New Year’s Eve celebrations at Fed Square feature star-studded musical performances in partnership with Multicultural Arts Victoria.

From 8pm, catch LIVE acts including hip-hop aficionado Simba Mak, the delightfully dynamic Kira Puru, the global sounds of Amaru Tribe, heavy duty funk and soul by Deep Street Soul, the electronic sounds of Barcelona turned Melbourne local Hosca and amazing K-Pop dancers on the main stage!

Fed Square CEO Jonathan Tribe said the Square is a great place to come and enjoy the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

“There’s no better place to welcome in Melbourne to welcome in the new year than fabulous Fed Square.  This year, we have a fantastic musical line-up planned to entertain the crowds and we are looking forward to a fantastic night,” said Tribe.

“The safety of our staff and visitors is our number one priority.  We are working closely with Victoria Police, Emergency Management Victoria and the City of Melbourne to ensure our visitors have a fun and safe experience at Fed Square on New Year’s Eve.”

Those who are planning on attending the festivities at Fed Square are encouraged to arrive early to find a good vantage spot to enjoy live music and fireworks, as the world holds its breath and cheers as the clock strikes twelve.

Christmas Square to light up the city

Fed Square will transform into Christmas Square this December; a magical Christmas wonderland to delight visitors from near and far.

From a 16m tall LED Christmas Tree with 192 individually programmed branched, to the popular giant selfie-bauble; from free Christmas movies in the Square, to site wide projects to a specially commissioned Christmas film on the Digital Facade, there will be no escaping the festival season at Fed Square.

Produced by Fed Square and the City of Melbourne, Christmas Square is set to be the ‘must-see’ Christmas attraction in Melbourne this year.

Fed Square CEO Jonathan Tribe said: “A spectacularly unique experience, there is something for people of all ages at Christmas Square and I encourage everyone to pop down and discover all that it has to offer. Events like these are a great drawcard for visitors to the square and the city.”

This year, the popular Gingerbread Village by EPICURE is in Fed Square, with a bigger than ever Gingerbread display.  There are also nightly light shows and projections across the site, pop-in visits from Santa and his elves and live choirs on Thursday evenings.


A Christmas Tale by Beci Orpin & General Strike to screen in Fed Square

Melbourne-based visual artist and designer Beci Orpin, in collaboration with film makers General Strike, has created an original animated Christmas film as part of Fed Square’s Christmas celebrations. The film will show most nights, with some very special choir performances on particular nights.


Fed Square Appoints New General Manager

Melbourne events specialist Suzana Bishop has joined the Fed Square team as General Manager Commercial and Public Engagement.

Ms Bishop will be part of Fed Square’s executive team and is responsible for leading programming, business development and marketing for the organisation.

Fed Square Live Takes to the Stage

 On Fridays from October 12 – December 21, some of Melbourne and Australia’s finest musical acts will grace the Fed Square stage and take audiences into the weekend for Fed Square Live.

Refined Apple Designs Signal a Re-imagined Fed Square

Regional Victoria in the Heart of the City

City dwellers can get a taste of regional Victoria during April when Federation Square transforms into Shepp Square, a two week festival of food, family activities and free events highlighting the best of the best of Greater Shepparton.

Liquid Sky to Captivate Fed Square this February

Federation Square will be covered by a mesmerising silver holographic sky-net when Patrick Shearn’s Liquid Sky arrives in Australia for the first time ever later this month.
Liquid Sky is a breathtaking public art installation created by 150-metres of silver streams, suspended to harness the wind and dance dramatically as if floating in mid-air.
